Solid sodium hydrosulphide is a pale yellow to brownish-black flaky solid. The industrial grade solid content is usually ≥70%. It is highly toxic, corrosive, and releases highly toxic hydrogen sulfide gas when exposed to acid. It may spontaneously combust in the air. When handling, it is necessary to wear: a full-face gas mask or a supplied air respirator, chemical protective clothing, and rubber impermeable gloves. It must be operated in a closed environment with local exhaust ventilation. No open flames or smoking are allowed at the work site. Use explosion-proof equipment. Store in a cool (≤20℃), well-ventilated, and dry warehouse with a relative humidity of ≤65%. Keep it strictly isolated from acids, oxidants, and food.
Sodium hydrosulfide is usually prepared as a solution before use.
Solubility: Sodium hydrosulfide is highly soluble in water and alcohols. At 20℃, its solubility in water can reach 620 g/L.
Operation points:
Slowly add solid sodium hydrosulfide to cold water under stirring. Do not pour water into solid sodium hydrosulfide to avoid violent reaction and splashing.
Sodium hydrosulfide dissolves exothermically and the solution is strongly alkaline (pH > 10). Take precautions.
Solid sodium hydrosulfide must be handled in a well-ventilated area to avoid dust flying. No open flames or smoking are allowed at the work site. Use explosion-proof equipment.
Important safety and emergency information:
Avoid contact with acids: Sodium hydrosulfide reacts with acids to release a large amount of highly toxic hydrogen sulfide gas instantly, which may cause fatal danger. No acidic substances should be stored or used in the operation area.
Prevent spontaneous combustion: Dry solid sodium hydrosulfide may undergo oxidation reactions and spontaneously combust in the air. Keep the container sealed and avoid exposure to air.
Leakage handling: Isolate the leakage area and cut off the fire source. After wearing protective equipment, collect the leakage into a dry, covered container with a clean shovel. Do not sweep the leakage into the sewer.
First aid measures:
Skin contact: Immediately rinse with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes.
Eye contact: Immediately rinse with plenty of running water or normal saline for at least 15 minutes.

Inhalation: Quickly move to a fresh air area and keep the airway clear. If breathing is difficult, immediately provide oxygen and seek medical attention.
